I started dancing in a children’s ballet theatre company at the age of 8 years old. I grew up in northern NJ and later attended the H.S. of Performing Arts in NYC and later graduated from Professional Children’s School. In high school, I became an apprentice with Dance Theatre of Harlem and later studied various dance techniques under a scholarship at the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre School. I performed with various regional dance troops while expanding into musical theatre, performing in “A Chorus Line” (as Morales) and in “Follies”, with some stints in the acting arena, with roles on television shows such as “One Life to Live”, “Guiding Light”, “All my Children”, “Law and Order”, “The Good Wife”, “Blue Bloods”, “100 Centre St”, and “Kidnapped”.
After injuring myself (knee surgeries) my dance career was over and I went on to work in the corporate world at Citigroup as a Project Coordinator and Desktop Publisher. I was laid off in 2010 when my job was outsourced to Mumbai. All through this transition, I continued to study Pilates and take dance classes for fun. That led to a connection back to Alvin Ailey and I was a teaching artist for their Arts in Education and Community Programs. Teaching ballet and modern dance to children from 6-to 15 years old within the NYC educational system.
I started practicing Pilates as a teenager. My ballet teacher suggested I study Pilates to help with my ballet training. I studied directly with Romana Kryzanowska, a direct disciple of Joseph Pilates. And later as an adult, after my dance career, I studied Pilates with other disciples of Joseph Pilates - Kathy Grant and Carola Trier. My practice of Pilates has been continuous since receiving my certification.
I came to teach Pilates and obtained my certification through my father. When he was hospitalized and in rehabilitation, I saw how much “rehab” he was not getting. I helped him in his recovery with physical therapy and what I knew from years of practicing Pilates. That inspired me to go for the teaching certification as I knew working in an office was “death” to me.
I continue to take Continuing Education workshops as well as work alongside Master Teachers to bring new knowledge and teachings to my practice and my clients.
I love to see my clients’ results and help them feel stronger physically and mentally, giving them back their confidence. It transcends every aspect of their lives, not only physically, but mentally and even spiritually.
